Exodus chs. 33-40 By: Edward Short© 1.Ex. 33: Vs. 1-6: What did God tell the Israelites after they worshipped the gold calf? “Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. B__ _ w__ n__ g__ w___ y__, because you are a s___-necked people and I might d____ you on the way." Vs. 7-11: Describe the relationship between Moses and God. “The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks w___ h__ f____.” Vs. 12-23: God allowed Moses to see part of his glory. What Moses saw was more than any most any other human had seen, nonetheless was only a part of God’s glory. Perhaps God enabled Moses to understand God’s name (Jehovah) in more depth; perhaps God allowed Moses to perceive more about God’s moral nature, holiness, nature, etc. The purpose was for Moses to know for sure that God was “pleased with” him [Easy-to-Read Chinese version is also given, which means “I like you”] and that “My Presence will go w___ y___, and I will give you rest.” 2.Ex. 34: What is the theme of Ex. 34? What did Moses receive for the second time? When Moses broke the two tablets of stone, it symbolized that the Israelites had disobeyed, had broken the “covenant.” What did receiving the stone tablets for a second time symbolize about the “covenant”? Vs. 6-7: Memorize this: The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.” Note especially v. 28. Vs. 29-35: After Moses came down the mountain, his face was r_____. Why did Moses veil his face? (See 2 Cor. 3:12-18.) 3.Ex. 35: Vs. 5 and 10: Who was to make an offering for the LORD? Vs. 21-29: “All… who were w____ brought to the LORD freewill offerings for all the work the LORD.” 4.Ex. 36: Vs. 4-5: "…The people are b___ m___ t___ e_____ for doing the work the LORD commanded to be done." 5.Ex. 37-40: Ex. 39:30: The priests wore “the plate, the sacred diadem, out of pure gold and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: H___ T__ T__ L___.” Explain the meaning of this phrase. Ex. 39:42-43: The Israelites had done all the work j___ as the LORD had c_______ Moses.43 Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it j___ as the LORD had commanded. So Moses b______ them.” Ex. 40 tells us that Moses completed his work or did not complete it? Ex. 40:33: “And so Moses f______ the work.” Ex. 40:34-38: “…the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle… In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would s___ o___; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not s___ o___--until the day it lifted. So the c_____ of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and f____ was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the h____ of Israel during all their travels.” This sentence means that whether day or night, the Lord was with the Israelites, to direct and protect them, waiting to fulfill all the promises he had made to them.
