Judges chs. 9 By: Edward Short© 1.Joshua 9: THE ANTI-JUDGE WHO OPPOSED GOD: ABIMELECH: V. 1: Whose son was Abimlech? He was son of Jerub-B_____; Jerub-B_____ was also know as G______ (Judges6:32). How many brothers did Gideon have? Abimelechs mother was a c_________ (Judges 8:30-31) who lived in S_______. Vs. 2-6: Gideon called the Israelites to cease worshipping Baal, but Abimelech used money from the temple of Baal to hire some hooligans to do what? What horrible deed did Abimelech perpetrate? Only o___ person hid and was not murdered; what was his name? Then all the citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo gathered beside the great tree at the pillar in Shechem to crown Abimelech k____. Why? Vs. 7-20: There are many parables in the New Testament and most of them were told by Jesus Christ; the Old Testament also contains some parables, one of which is here. Judges ch. 9, verses 7-15, are an allegory. Tell and explain Jothams parable; tell who the thornbush represents. Vs. 21-57: Abimelech deceived the Israelites into crowning him their king. The citizens were swayed easily however, so Gaal son of Ebed moved with his brothers into Shechem, and its citizens put their confidence in him (v. 26). Explain in detail how God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers (v. 56).
